Coach Spotlight - Amy

Amy is a silks and lyra instructor here at FLY and one of the studio Co-Owners.  Did you know Amy started her aerial journey in January of 2017? Via her bio on our Fly website, "She quickly realized that she could adapt many of the same principles from her gymnast days, yet it possessed its own unique appeal. She found the combination irresistible and her love for the sport quickly grew." Amy stated, "From day one, silks has been my favorite apparatus. Occasionally, I would take a lyra or hammock class, but aside from that, I focused solely on silks for the first two years of my aerial training. Lyra and hammock eventually grew on me." With that, "Amy loves the challenge aerial fitness provides her on a personal level. Her determination for overcoming obstacles has inspired many and helped them progress through their own journey."

When can you catch Amy's classes? "I teach classes on Wednesday evenings beginning with Intermediate Lyra at 5pm, followed by Advanced Silks at 6pm, and Beginner Silks at 7pm. I prefer to teach small combos or sequences in my classes. This helps students understand how to transition between moves and is particularly helpful when they are choreographing routines for upcoming shows. It also encourages flow and creativity as students develop their personal styles and learn to dance on the apparatus." In addition, Amy has also been known to teach workshops on unique apparatuses such as tippy Lyra and stacked Lyras, not to mention doubles Lyra (2 people on a lyra at the same time). You can always check the schedule of classes and workshops HERE.

When asked if she had any favorite aerial or studio memory, she stated, "It's hard to pick a favorite. I think the day I learned how to do a Triple Star Drop on silks would  probably top the list. It was the first time I had learned a super long drop and it was exhilarating. I think that was really the first time I felt like I did something incredible in the fabric so (for me) that feeling is forever attached to that moment." Overall, Amy loves anything with a spin or a drop, "If I can combine the two, it will become one of my "go-to" moves. I especially like drops that take the entire length of the silks and multi-directional drops."

When she isn't hanging from a ceiling somewhere, Amy enjoys spending time with her daughter, gardening, going on adventures and enjoying outdoor activities like camping, hiking and riding jet skis.
